Simon Parkin is a British pianist, composer, and arranger who was born in Manchester, entered the Yehudi Menuhin School as a pianist at the age of ten, and began joint studies in composition at Manchester University and the Royal Northern College of Music at seventeen. After graduating he was invited to join the RNCM staff, where he has taught theory, aural studies, improvisation, composition, and arranging, and he later completed a PhD in composition at Manchester University. As a collaborative pianist he maintains a long-standing duo partnership with his wife, cellist Hannah Roberts, works regularly with artists including Ralph Kirshbaum, and has served as pianist for masterclasses at IMS Prussia Cove, London Masterclasses, and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. He is also Arranger-in-Residence for Manchester Camerata, and his arrangements have been performed or recorded by Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Jess Gillam, the London Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, and the Sakura Cello Quintet. His catalogue includes chamber music, instrumental sonatas, and larger-scale works, alongside an ongoing project to compose a piece for every day of the year.
