Chen Weiping is a cellist who has served since 2005 as Associate Professor of Cello and postgraduate supervisor in the Orchestral Instruments Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He studied with the distinguished Chinese pedagogue Chen Jiuhe and the Russian cellist Natalia Gutman and was selected by China’s Ministry of Culture for state-sponsored study at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Invited by Mstislav Rostropovich to Japan for further study and performances, he also worked with conductor Seiji Ozawa and became the first Chinese musician to participate in the Saito Kinen Festival. As a soloist he has collaborated with the China National Symphony, Shanghai Symphony, Shanghai Philharmonic, Shenzhen Symphony, Qingdao Symphony, and other orchestras, performing at venues including the Berlin Philharmonie and across Europe and Asia. He is equally active in chamber music, contemporary music, and teaching, and is regularly invited to serve as a festival professor and competition juror while his students continue to win major prizes.

陈卫平是大提琴演奏家,自2005年起任上海音乐学院管弦系大提琴副教授、硕士研究生导师。他先后师从中国海派大提琴教育家陈九鹤教授和俄罗斯大提琴大师Natalia Gutman,并由中国文化部国家公派赴莫斯科柴可夫斯基音乐学院学习。他曾应罗斯特罗波维奇邀请赴日本随其学习和演出,并与指挥大师小泽征尔合作,成为参加日本Saito Kinen国际音乐节的首位中国音乐家。作为独奏家,他曾与中国国家交响乐团、上海交响乐团、上海爱乐乐团、深圳交响乐团和青岛交响乐团等合作,并在柏林爱乐大厅及欧洲、亚洲多地演出。他同样活跃于室内乐、现代音乐和教学领域,培养的学生多次在国内外比赛获奖,并长期受邀担任国际音乐节客座教授和比赛评委。
