Chen Weiping

Chen Weiping is a cellist and educator at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he teaches in the Orchestral Instruments Department and supervises graduate students. He studied with the distinguished Shanghai-school teacher Chen Jiuhe and with Natalia Gutman, one of the leading representatives of the Russian cello tradition. He also studied in Moscow through a Chinese Ministry of Culture state sponsorship, bringing back important influences from the Russian cello school. Chen has performed as a concerto soloist with orchestras including the China National Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, Shanghai Oriental Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Conservatory Youth Symphony Orchestra. His concert activities have taken him to major European and Asian venues, and he has toured internationally as solo cellist with Chinese orchestras. Mstislav Rostropovich once praised him as an exceptionally talented Chinese musician. As a teacher, Chen Weiping is frequently invited to serve on juries and to give masterclasses in China and abroad. He has been active in Shanghai and national cello professional organisations, and his teaching combines the traditions of the Shanghai school with a strong Russian influence. His career reflects the role of a performer-scholar in the development of cello performance and pedagogy in China.

陈卫平是上海音乐学院管弦系大提琴教师、硕士研究生导师，也是活跃于演奏与教学领域的大提琴家。他先后师从中国著名海派大提琴教育家陈九鹤教授与俄罗斯学派重要代表 Natalia Gutman，并曾由中国文化部国家公派赴莫斯科柴可夫斯基音乐学院学习，将俄罗斯大提琴学派的重要影响带回中国。 陈卫平曾多次以独奏家身份与中国国家交响乐团、上海交响乐团、上海爱乐乐团、上海民族乐团、上海东方交响乐团、上海音乐学院青年交响乐团等合作演出协奏曲。他的演出足迹遍及欧洲、亚洲多个国家和地区，并曾跟随中国国家交响乐团、上海民族乐团等进行欧洲巡演，担任独奏大提琴。罗斯特罗波维奇曾评价他为“中国最具有天才的音乐家”。 作为教师，陈卫平经常受邀担任国内外比赛评委，并在国内、港澳及亚洲各地定期举行大师班讲学。他长期活跃于上海及全国大提琴专业组织，教学中融合海派大提琴传统与俄罗斯学派影响，是中国大提琴演奏与教育发展中的重要人物。
