Claudio Bohórquez

Claudio Bohórquez was born in Germany, of Peruvian and Uruguayan descent, and is currently a cello professor at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. He is one of the most highly regarded cellists on the international music scene today. He first studied in Lübeck with David Geringas, then in Cologne and Berlin with Boris Pergamenschikow, and received guidance from renowned artists such as Anner Bylsma, Steven Isserlis, and Ferenc Rados. He first made his mark at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians and the Paris Rostropovich Competition. In 1995 he won first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition, and in 2000 he won both first prize and the Best Chamber Music Award at the first Pablo Casals International Competition in Kronberg. He has performed with the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. In addition to his busy solo and chamber music career, he served as a professor at the Stuttgart University of Music and has long been involved in international music festivals, recording projects, and the training of young musicians.
