Claudio Bohórquez

Claudio Bohórquez is a German-born cellist of Peruvian and Uruguayan heritage and one of the most distinguished cellists of his generation. Born in Gifhorn, Germany, he first studied as a junior student with David Geringas in Lübeck and later continued his cello studies with Boris Pergamenschikow in Cologne and Berlin. He also received important artistic guidance through masterclasses with artists including Anner Bylsma, Steven Isserlis and Ferenc Rados. Bohórquez achieved early international recognition through major prizes, including awards at the International Tchaikovsky Youth Competition and the Rostropovich Cello Competition in Paris. He has since appeared as soloist with many renowned orchestras, including German radio symphony orchestras and leading international ensembles, and has worked with conductors and chamber music partners of the highest level. His musicianship is known for its technical refinement, expressive depth and close attention to the structure and colour of the score. A committed teacher as well as performer, Bohórquez has held important teaching positions in Germany. He has been associated with the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin for many years and is Professor of Cello there. His artistic profile combines international performance, chamber music and pedagogy, making him a highly valued mentor for advanced young cellists.
