Hannah Roberts

Hannah Roberts is a leading British cellist and one of the United Kingdom’s most respected cello teachers. She is Jacqueline du Pré Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Professor of Cello at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and Principal Cellist of Manchester Camerata. She is also active internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and educator. Roberts studied with distinguished teachers including William Pleeth and Ralph Kirshbaum, and her performing career spans concerto appearances, chamber music, duo recitals and festival performances. She has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé, the London Mozart Players and Manchester Camerata. As a chamber musician and recitalist, she is particularly known for her long-standing duo partnership with pianist and composer Simon Parkin, with whom she has performed widely to critical acclaim. As a teacher, Roberts has had a major influence on younger generations of cellists. Her students and mentees have gone on to study, perform and compete internationally, and she is frequently invited to teach at masterclasses and summer courses. Her appointment as the Royal Academy of Music’s Jacqueline du Pré Professor of Cello reflects both her artistic achievements and her contribution to the cello’s educational legacy.
