Born in Hungary in 1975, László Fenyő is Professor of Cello at the University of Music Karlsruhe and has ranked among the international cello elite since winning the 2004 Pablo Casals Competition in Kronberg. At thirteen he became a junior student of László Mező at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, later continuing his studies with David Geringas in Lübeck and receiving important guidance from Bernard Greenhouse. During his student years he won prizes at the Geneva International Music Competition, the Rostropovich Competition in Paris, the Adam Cello Competition in Christchurch, and the Budapest Radio Competition, later receiving Hungary’s Franz Liszt Prize in 2005 and the Junior Prima Award in 2008. He served as Principal Cellist of the Philharmonia Hungarica from 1997 to 2001 and of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony from 2001 to 2012. As a soloist he has appeared at venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, and Munich’s Gasteig, collaborated with major orchestras, and given masterclasses around the world.
